I have been telling everyone about how excited I am about the coming forth of baby ducks. Sadly, wikipedia has shed some light on the inner workings of the duck. More specifically, I have learned it will take 27-28 days for the eggs to hatch. Ugh! That's FOREVER! At least I thought that was forever. But things change quick around here.
Luckily...she returned a day or two later. Of course she is acting as if her abandonment hasn't scarred me deeply, but it has. PJ and I have decided her name shall be Mallie. This name was the brain child of her species name, Mallard. (We might write a baby name book one day; look for it!)
I mention Mallie's disappearance for two reasons:
1. To gain your sympathies because people are nicer when they feel sorry for you. and...
2. To give background for my appalling discovery....
THERE WERE NO EGGS!
I know, right? That duck is so deceptive. Leading me on, building a nest, sitting for days on end, not eating all that bread I keep throwing at her. Who does Mallie think I am? I will not be toyed with. She better start laying some eggs before I do something drastic.
I'm going to get a puppy...they are so much less dramatic.
Primadonna.
